Tapestry 'Threat' in the Satdarapat Museum Armenia

datum bericht: 08-05-2025

At the end of May 2025, the tapestry 'Threat' will be exhibited for several months in the famous Satdarapat Museum Armenia as part of a group exhibition.

This tapestry is based on Jan Doms' many years of experience in Armenia. After a major oeuvre exhibition in the Armenian Center for Contemporary Experimental Art (ACCEA / NPAK 2019), based on the multi-year project 'Mushtopia' in which he also collaborated with Juliane Schreiber (D), among others.

They then decided on a specific collaboration project, which resulted in the monumental tapestry 'Threat', produced in the TextileLab in the Textilemuseum Tilburg (NL 2022).

The tapestry depicts the landscape from the terrace of the painter Hrach Vardanyan with Mount Aragats near Gyumri, with the silhouette of a Russian jet fighter in the foreground, just before the outbreak of the battle with Ngorno Karabakh. The landscape from antiquity is strikingly connected with the threatening actuality of the present; hence the title of the tapestry 'Threat'.

Jan Doms met Juliane Schreiber during her internal training at the TexileLab. Afterwards she worked with him in Armenia, with the TextileLab in Tilburg, designed the costumes for the project/performance 'Malerwanderweg' and created the necklace for the boxer/dancer in the performance 'In contro di Boxe'.
