Magazine Glass 2025 - review Sculpture Garden

datum bericht: 14-11-2025

For the thirtieth edition of the Ravesteyn Sculpture Garden in Heenvliet, south of Rotterdam, Jan Doms designed an impressive and daring installation: a crashing bomber made of bulletproof glass, entwined with a tree. He also conceived a submarine, floating in the moat, filled with torpedoes and nightmarish objects. The third object is a Humvee in the ruins on the grounds.

The bomber itself was a gigantic project: it's over ten meters long, constructed from some sixty triangular panels of 2 x 8 mm thick laminated float glass, together weighing 1600 kilos. During the hoisting process, a connection failed. The artwork instantly changed from "Crashing Bomber" to "Crashed Bomber."

"Sometimes reality overtakes fantasy!"
